The Most In-Demand Job Skills in IT & Engineering: The Evolving Skills Landscape | Industry Report

Ceipal’s 2025 Job Skills Report highlights the most in-demand jobs and skills in IT and engineering, with key insights into hiring trends, salary data, and the role of AI in shaping the workforce. The report, “The Most In-Demand Job Skills in IT & Engineering: The Evolving Skills Landscape,” is based on more than 78,000 job listings that were posted via Ceipal’s ATS for the contingent IT and engineering workforce.

“We’re seeing increased demand for professionals who can integrate AI into business processes, as well as for roles like AI engineers, machine learning specialists, and cybersecurity experts,” said Ceipal Founder & CEO Sameer Penakalapati. “At the same time, technical skills alone are no longer enough—employers are prioritizing problem-solving, adaptability, and communication to ensure long-term success in an AI-powered world.”

Given the ongoing skills shortage, Ceipal’s research will help staffing firms, employers, and job seekers to be prepared for the future by providing a guide to the most highly desired skills.

Key findings include: 

  • Data Engineer is the highest paying job title ($168,480/year), followed by IT Technology Analyst ($166,732/year), IT Consultant ($163,592/year), and Software Engineer ($158,641/year).
  • The top 20 most In-demand jobs represent 41% of all job postings.
  • While Business Analyst topped the list of in-demand jobs, it only ranked as the 19th top-paying job ($137,571/year).
  • The Top 20 Skills listed represent 50 percent of all desired skills with Java, cloud computing, Oracle, and .Net skills topping the list.
  • Washington ($166,296/year), Texas ($156,000/year), and California ($154,586/year) led the list of ten highest-paying states.
